New Affordable Housing Rental Company
The Government will establish a new Affordable Housing Rental Company.
The new company will:
- operate as a non-government entity
- provide quality and affordable rental to medium and low income Territorians
- fill the gap between the public and private housing markets
- seek to utilise the National Rental Affordability Scheme.
An Affordable Housing Rental Company is a semi-commercial operation operating at arm's length from Government, providing rental housing to low to moderate income households at an affordable level.
Government ‘seeds’ the company by providing it with money, stock or land and it partners with the private sector or develops its own stock. Over time, the company is expected to receive sufficient rental income to be self-sustaining.
